$50 IPA
This recipe is more or less "Brewtopia IPA" from "The Homebrewers Recipe Guide" by Patrick Higgins, Maura Kate Kilgore & Paul Hertlein, with a slight variation to the hops. There has been some previous discussion that the $50 in cost for ingredients was too much. It's a good beer, regardless.
8 lbs Muntons plain light DME
1/2 lb Crystal Malt (20L)
1/2 lb Munich malt
1 tsp gypsum
2 oz East Kent Goldings hops
3 oz Cascade hops
1 tps Irish moss
1 White Labs California Ale yeast
In 3 gallons of water, add gypsum and steep crush grains at 155-160 degrees for 30 min.
Add DME, bring to boil
Add East Kent Goldings at beginning of boil
Add 1 oz Cascade at 30 min
Add 1/2 oz Cascade and Irish moss at 50 min
After 60 min boil, turn off heat and add 1/2 oz Cascade for 10 min
Bring total volume to 5 gallons and pitch yeast
After 7-10 days fermentation, rack to secondary and dry hop with remaining hops (1 oz Cascade and 1/2 oz East Kent Goldings)
After 7-10 days, prime with 5 oz sugar and bottle
what kinda original gravity does that get you to?
also, any reccomendations on how much/what kind of hops might go good with that for a dry hop?

That should give you around 1.075 for gravity.
Kind of depends what kind of aroma you are looking to get out of the dry hop. The recipe itself calls for dry hopping with the remaining Cascade and EK Goldings hops.
After 7-10 days fermentation, rack to secondary and dry hop with remaining hops (1 oz Cascade and 1/2 oz East Kent Goldings)
Now if you want to change the arom you're going to get, then you could purchase some other hops and give them a try. I'm big fan of dry hopping with Centennial, Columbus, Crystal, and Nugget. Each one lends a different arom and really changes the end resulting beer.

I don't see how it's a $50 recipe. I don't brew extract so maybe extract is that high now? If it were brewed all-grain, it wouldn't be near $50 for a 1075 OG.
when I first saw this thread, I too thought "no way that's $50", so I went to NB and started throwing the ingredients in the cart. it came to about $48, and yes, DME is expensive, about $3/lb... (and don't forget, there's 5oz of hops in that recipe, too...)
another reason to go AG, I'm paying ~$40 for a 55lb bag of Maris Otter...
Wow, I had no idea extract was that much. I was thinking 11-12 lbs of grain to get to 1075 so $12, plus .80/ounce for hops, definitely not $50.
I'm glad someone did the math and verified that $50 for this extract recipe is not out of the park. Unfortunately, that's the price you pay for convenience.
Also, according to my notes, the OG was 1.062 with a FG of 1.012. This is probably off slightly because I'm not very good with the hydrometer.
I just got back from the homebrew store. Three years after brewing this recipe for about $50, my bill came to $58, including $4.99 for a bottle of Stone Ruination. So that's still around $53 and that doesn't include 1 1/2 ounces of E. Kent Goldings hops, which my buddy is providing from some he grew this summer.
Maybe it's time to go all grain: DME was $12.99 for 3 lbs.
