Maybe we need to do a Pumptoberfest.....ha!

mmmm, Porter.  I have yet to have a good one.  All of the porters that I try taste like a flat stout.  Someone post a kick ass brew for a porter at least.  My vote is for Porter.

my vote is pumpkin,

Put me down for the Pumpkin Ale...I've a couple homegrown pumpkins sitting outside just waiting to be tossed into a brew.

In the same boat...Gotta vote pumpkin ale.  Was just on-line to look for recipies in a few minutes.  Was planning on trying to brew one up next weekend as my first all-grain batch.

I've got an Ofest in the fridge that I will drink for our own festival.  This beer typically has a long aging time.  Just something to keep in mind.  It is one of my favorite styles, though.  I've made several different pumpkin ales over the years and have yet to make a decent one, or maybe I just don't like them much.  How about a nice roasty Irish Red?

I've made many pumpkin beers and what I've found is you get post of the flavor from your spices. The pumpkin itself usually just adds a little color. I've used canned and fresh.
There is going tobe a lot of waste from the pumpkin sludge so plan for a 5 1/2 gallon batch. I've also just steeped the pumpkin with the grains, and other times boiled it and put it in primary fermentor. Best way to get flavoe is to add some spices near end of boil and then add spices to priming sugar.

The pumpkin beer I just made was sour. Was going to add spices to secondary as per recipe but the beer was already sour so I dumped it and will be making another batch this coming weekend. Making an english bitter right as I type.
