Absinthe Recipe

Hey Guys,

Well, I've never had absinthe, but I've formed my own recipe from looking at other recipes. Here it is:

1 oz. Wormwood
750ml 100-proof vodka

Let sit for 10 days in a tight container.
Remove wormwood. Then add:

1 heaping tablespoon aniseed
1 heaping tablespoon fennel seed
1 heaping tablespoon angelica root
1 heaping teaspoon hyssop herb
1 heaping teaspoon lemon balm herb
1 heaping teaspoon calamus root
Big pinch of coriander seed
Little pinch of caraway seed
Little pinch of cardamom seed (if you buy whole pods, be sure to crush them first)

Let sit for 4 days.
Remove ingredients, then you're done.

I'm sure you all know the sugar cube ritual, fire or no fire (I don't intend to do that), and I'm sure you'd know how much to use, and of course adding water and sugar is to taste. I might add mint, I've heard that makes the flavor better too.

But that's what I've made, it's sitting in my fridge finished, and I won't be drinking it for about four or five days, but what may I expect?

Looked through some trip reports on a popular site but most of them have imported "absinth" and there's no way to tell what's in it, OR they add a random amount of wormwood to a random alcoholic beverage and let it sit either too long or not long enough, drink either not enough or way too much, then go on to give their bad trip report. So... ya know.

I've heard that other than ethanol and wormwood, some of the other ingredients are indeed psychoactive (albeit slightly) and not just for flavor. I know that lemon balm is a powerful sleep-aid and cardamom is a stimulant like caffeine. I'm sure calamus has a lot of effects, but I don’t know, and I'm not sure about the rest.

I was thinking about 2 oz. of this with cold water and sugar added. Would this be too much? Not enough? What am I to expect?

I've only been drunk twice, didn't like it much, and I've thought about trying wormwood tea, but only about one-third of the people I've asked online say it's any good, the rest say wormwood will make me feel like shit.

I figured I'd ask at yet another forum. You guys are cool people.

Hello moises,

Depends on how much you drink. It's bitter and the sugar will help ease the bitterness...but don't do the fire thing. Mix with some H20..but not too much and drink. I personally prefer to slam the stuff with minimal H20.

Effects will be much more awake and lively than a sleepy sloppy drunk feeling. Just do 2 or 3 shots worth at first and see how it feels.

Report back soon so we know what you think.
