Adding gelatin
How long should I leave my beer after adding gelatin? I didn't add Irish moss to the boil, so I used gelatin to clear the haze. So far, after 48 hrs, the beer has cleared substantially, but there are still a lot of tiny globules of stuff suspended in the beer. Thanks
hi ruben,
Gelatin should only really be added at the end of 2ndary in order to clear any suspended yeast as a finishing agent. It is not intended to take the place of Irish moss. Depending on the stage you are at you may well have not achieved a good cold break. This really, on the scheme of things is not really a problem you simply have excess protein etc in your finished beer. No amount of gelatin will clear this completely.Hazey beers not that bad, its just not fashionable. At the end of the day, if you are left with hazey beer it really, on the bottom line is the fault of the malt. After all, a good well modified 2 row malt WILL convert in the mash. Don’t use gelatin to replace what you left out of the boil. Post boil is post boil. End of story.
good luck,
You ara loosing an ingresiant and adding another one on early stages so i am afraid you will have to do it right way!
