Anyone have a good Augustiner Clone?
I've been searching the web trying to locate a decent Augustiner Clone recipe, was wondering if anyone has had any luck? Thanks
Are you set up to ferment a lager and condition properly? If so I would suggest a munich helles recipe from Jamil, or even throw something together from the guidelines and use the proper yeast, you will probably come pretty close. Most of these clones give the yeast profile of the style and can't get the identical strain as the brewery has uses in their own proprietary strain- so kinda close enough mentality.
Jamil has a helles recipe showing about 91% pilsner, 7% munich, and 2% melanoidan, mashed at 150 deg for a 1.048 wort. Bittering with hallertau to 18 IBUs. Using wlp838 or wyeast 2308 you should get pretty close.
The other thing to consider with this style will be your water profile. Munich is such a soft water, they make a delicate low IBU beer nicely. If you have a hard water, you should consider a pH buffer or some gypsum to adjust the water.
Thanks for the info, I will look into doing this.
