asking for recipe
Looking to brew another batch from a recipe.
Although I've become something of a hop head, I would rather do something smooth.
with out the hops bite. Nor am I a big fan of porter.
The classic English ale RM and I did is good, but I don't want to do another kit.
Anyone have a recipe they wouldn't mind sharing? Smooth maybe a little fruity, an easy belgian maybe. A tasty wheat. Tried a cherry wheat over the weekend, didn't care for it, I do love hacker shore weiss though.
If ya don't mind sharing that is.
I don't blame you about the kits. I did two and hated them both. They are great for learning, but my training wheels came off within a month.
Good recipes don't have to be complex. Some of the absolute best beers I have ever had were some of the simplest to make.
Try something like a 7# bucket of wheat extract along with some mild bittering and aroma hops. Something like Willamette, Halletauer, Tettnanger, and such.
I have made wheats and ambers using all kinds of made up recipes.
How about a 7# bucket of amber with a specialty grain for steeping (like munich or vienna) and some mild hops. As for what hops to use, I just open the bag and smell them. It the hop smells really spicy, I use something else.
Marv, here's an all grain you're welcome to try...one of my favs and the wife's too....

Thanks Gizmo, I'm still at the extract level though.
I think I found my next one.
My first recipe should be ready for tasting next weekend, depending
on it's taste, I'm going to work on it till I get what I want from it.
How about a Belgian? I'm heading over to the shop in a bit to pick up my ingredients for a Belgian Dark Strong ale. They have this new Belgian Dark Candi syrup I've been wanting to try out.

I think you should brew a Budweiser clone Marv.
Ever notice how a large number of people throw a lemon wedge in their hefeweizens. So naturally had to make a hef with a lemon chopped up in the boil. Turned out pretty damn good, too.
No thank you cubx, Americac light ale is close enough. I'm not a buttwipers fan.![]()
I'm going to hold off on the belgian till this spring when I try all grain.
Just need a false bottom and a mash tun.
Prolly going to order them threw the LBS.
Yeah it's hard to say what you should brew. Seriously.... just try SOMETHING! Honest to god, when I broke into all grain in the fall of 2005, I just made up recipes. How do you think brewmasters come up with exotic recipes? Break the rules.
Buy a bucket of ANY extract, add a specialty grain, and throw in some good tasting hops.
Just experiment. I do it all the time.
