Autumn Lager
It's recipes like this that have me itching so bad to do all-grain, and get a freezer for fermenting!
I've never traditionally liked fall, I used to find it a depressing and anti-climatic transition into winter
However, recently I am beginning to enjoy the Harvest Season. I can finally appreciate the colors and the changes, and am even looking forward to it this year!
Oh how I wish I could brew up Oktoberfest and Bock for Fall, and have a Doppelbock sitting from last March ready for winter hibernation! Grr!
I got to save some money up, and get a new place!
Regards!!
Hello peyton,
It's funny, but my kegging system dictated the style to some extent.
I started off wanting to brew a high-gravity brown ale, featuring 1/4 pound of Carafa III. But I wanted to dispense my recently-kegged Floyd's ESB, while this thing ferments. The solution? Use a lager yeast, ferment (and dispense Floyd's) at 55F. and call it a bock. It kind of splits the difference between a Scotch ale and a Bock, with several liberties taken, like finishing hops, hop variety, Aromatic malt, no 32F. Conditioning, etc. But it's homebrew, I hate style guidelines, and it should be tasty as hell regardless.
I love fall, I always have. Summer is just too damn hot for my taste, I'm always glad to see it go. We've had a solid heat wave here ever since the weekend I bought my chest freezer, which is ridiculously long. I really, really need to move somewhere cooler.
Thanks cayden,
Well that's what you get for being in So Cal!
Michigan deals with it's own heat issues this time of year. And the temp is only half the problem. Like you very likely know, humidity is what kills ya. I stepped out of the office yesterday evening and was covered in sweat in about 5 seconds, and it's only 75!! This weekend we should surpass 90 twice, with no chance of a "dry-heat"!!
However, for the majority of the year, it's plenty cool around here! (Central Lower Peninsula, MI)
Cheers!!!
