beginning to look a lot like christmas!
ok maybe not but had what i think a decent idea for a holiday brew but as i'm new to the game need some help getting the idea right. any suggestions as to what style of beer would work best with a gingersnap flavor? i have some gingersnap flavored herbal tea bags that i would like to try this out with but need some suggestions on what types of grains, yeast, etc would be best for this concept. or even if you guys think the idea is ludicrous lemme know. i know this knowledge comes with time and i'm devouring information like a machine but i was anxious for some feedbback.
I don't know if it would be exactly "gingersnap", but Papazian has an extract recipe for " Vagabond Gingered Ale" page 217, Second Edition, Oct 1991.
"RDWHAHB"
that papazian recipe may be a good guide to grain type and yeast strain. i would say experiment, you've got the time. reduce everything to 2 or 3 gallon batches and run through them with different ingredients.
you never know, those tea bags may hit the flavor right on after two weeks in the secondary...and it may taste like crap. that is the fun part of brewing!
and if you reduce the brew size, you are never stuck with five gallons of garbage. if you don't like some of what you brew, store it. come christmas, it may have matured into a delicious seasonal.
my spelling is getting worse here, i apologize. i am guzzling champagne like a bride with secodn thoughts. i need the bottles for my cider which i want to bottle tomorrow. four more magnums to go!
