Big Brew 2005 IPA
Hello Guys,
Was there really no mash with this beer? I had been under the impression that you can't steep Rye Malt, is that not the case? I would love to make a slightly Rye Flavored IPA and I would love to do a beer over 1.100, this would be perfect!
I just steeped all the grains in the brew pot, at around 156?F for 30 minutes. I then pulled the grain bag, and sparged it all in a colander, using that water to fill the brew kettle. The beer turned out quite nice, but did not have much of a rye flavor. If I were to make the recipe again, I would definitely increase the amount of rye malt, getting more flavor closer to the hop rod rye.
