BKB Spring Brew!
Well I just cracked my bottle of Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet, it has my mind made up. I am definitely brewing a black IPA, but I am going to make it an American version. This beer is fantastic, for anyone who can get it around here I suggest you do. I am thinking now a chico strain with the same amarillo and columbus they use. Probably just go 2 row, carafa III, and sugar. Keep it simple and bitter to 65 IBUs.
four pages in 24 hours...... I would say that we really want a spring brew. cali common gets my vote.

hmmm, not really a summer beer is it? I mean a dark beer doesn't exactly scream refreshing and light does it? Probably has alot of special B in the recipe that's why Thirsty is so excited. Ha ha

We'll get around to the summer mack and jack thread in another couple months.

Bruguru, the Carafa III is used in Black IPA's to give color without much flavor. You can taste it but it is subdued. They taste like a normal IPA with a slight dark malt flavor. Like Andrew said in an earlier post, it's fun to hand one to a hop head friend who doesn't like dark beers, and see his reaction. The beer that sold me on the idea was Stones Sublimly Self Righteous, give it a try if you can find it.
I picked up Stones Cali-Belgique IPA last night. It's a "Cali style" IPA with belgian yeast. If that is what a belgian IPA tastes like, no thanks. Duvel meets a hay truck.

This is the first time in a while we've had this much interest in a community brew. I think we're going to need to set up a poll to come to a decision. We don't have the option on this board but I set up an account at MicroPoll a little while back and it should only take a few minutes to whip up.
Nathan!
The man needs a polling widget built into the site! Get on it my man!!!!

See I envision a much more subtle yeast character, that is why I was originally thinking wy3522. I think to make this beer best, you need to think good attenuation, and somewhat dry to showcase the hops. So a cool Belgian ferment, with some simple sugars and possibly a 148-150 mash temp, may provide this balance.
But again, after having the Hoppy Shoes last night, I am switching gears to do this American style, and will probably go with US-05 on it.

Its funny you say it that way. The concept of Belgian IPA as always rubbed me the wrong way.
I hear ya but then I had a Piraat and I let it slide.
I still like the idea of an American Brown ale (with Amarillo) or a steam beer.

So far we have:
Saison
Alt
California Common
American Brown Ale
American Wheat
Black IPA
Belgian IPA
Belgian Black IPA
Did I miss anything? Any other suggestions?
HOW ABOUT A SWEET POTATO STOUT!
LOL.

Happy Easter! Just stickyed the thread, I'll check into some kindof good polling system for the forums or integrate something!
Revote?
Hi guys,
I managed to get a polling system installed. it's pretty basic but reusable. In addition I updated the homepage with news about the spring brew. Check the home page, its in testing right now so if you notice anything strange people let me know.
There might be a slight popup issue on MacOS, but it still works.
How about in the next few days we generate a master list to poll? Then leave polling open for a week or so?
I can send a newsletter out advertising the poll to get more people involved at the same time!
What do you guys think?
Thanks!
Nathan

Excellent work and good ideas.
I haven't tested the polling functionality yet, but I'll give you some feedback after I do.
It looks pretty basic, but who cares as long as it gets the job done and is easy for people to set up.
EDIT:
Nathan... Tried the polling. I love the spartan-esque nature. Clean and efficient.
Only one issue....I found a way to vote twice!
PM me and we can talk about it.
Thanks for getting it together though guy.
Just tested the poll. Its basic and simple but functional. I like the newsletter idea too. Keep up the good work.
Hey Nathan, the polling tool looks fine. Functional and easy.
On a different note, can you close and sticky the OFFICIAL MAC & JACK'S AFRICAN AMBER CLONE Recipe thread? A number of us have wanted to have the recipe preserved as it got kind of tough to find in the "big" thread, which continues to roll along,... mostly thanks to Thirsty! The result was that Bruguru posted the completely updated recipe in a new thread, along with a request to not post on that thread. So far, no posts, but it has not been closed or sticked as of yet.
Thanks
Fritz
Thanks guys
I'll aim to send the mailing out announcing the spring brew in the next few days!
Then have a standard list by wednesday and start voting friday? How does that timeline sound?
brewchez: You voted twice?
I know one maybe its the way you used? But it's abit tricky. What do you think should I restrict the vote 1 per member account?
Thanks!
Nathan
Brewing Legends should get at least two votes, don't you think? Especially when he goes onto a thread posting just to be the first post on top of another page..... Sorry Thirsty. couldn't resist. : )
And Nathan. Thanks for getting that Mack & Jack recipe of Bruguru's stickeyed and closed. Preserved for eternity. Boy are you in trouble Bruguru.
