BKB Summer Community Brew
i know that when using sugar you need to boil them in water to disolve it and create a solution.... but i've never used sugar during the boil, only for carbonation. so i'm just curious how much water would i boil the pound of candi sugar in? and how long should it take to disolve it cause i don't want to start it too late and be forced to add it even later in the boil
ok finally did it... a day later than planned... which was a a couple weeks later than originally planned.... but i did it. Everything went smooth during the whole process at least as smooth as i could expect, only one problem and it was my error... for some reason after split my 1oz of sweet orange peel into two .5 oz. i then preceeded to dump the whole 1 oz. so hopefully its an added bonus vs an overpowering mistake... but no matter i'm still optomistic... here it is 1 hour after i've finished and no apparent signs of fermentation yet.... but i gotta go to work so hopefully when i return things are different... but like i said i'm optomistic so i cant wait for this to be done...
FG (so far) 1.017 i transfered into the 2ndy today to give a little more time even thought it's close to range, looks like apple cider, taste is good
i was worried i would have 5 gal of something i wouldnt like.
we... after work and then again when i woke up i checked it out.... and plenty of activity in the airlock... and since i have it locked up in a closet i can even smell it.... smells good... i can't wait... one thing though, my OG wasn't quite what i wanted.... it was 1.054 so a little below what was expected.... i saw brewluva was right in about the same area so maybe i'm not as far off as i thought but all in all everything is going good
just giving the link a bump up, anyone else out there want to give an update on where they are at making / drinking the summer community brew?
i'm kegging mine tomorrow, will take one mor SG reading also
fermentation definately appears to have slowed down... and its been in the primary for 1 week today... so either today or tomarrow i should be racking over to secondary.... smells great, like i said before i accidently doubled the orange peel so its got a strong citrusy smell... i can't wait to taste it
well i wasn't able to rack to secondary on monday like i thought... things came up and i couldn't do it till today, thursday. Anyways the beer looks great, i took a hydrometer reading and it was at 1.013 so its probably finished, but i'm gonna let it sit in the secondary for a few days to let things settle a bit and then bottling won't be too far behind that.
ya the extra week in the secondary dropped mine down to 1.015
well i just tapped the keg and started drinking the Sasion, so far im impressed i was worried i'd have 5 gallons of something i didnt like.
