BKB Summer Community Brew

Well  I know we haven't really gotten into our spring brew yet, but i wanted to start thinking about what we want to drink on those hazy lazy hot dog days of sizziling summer.

I'd be up for that.  I really want to get things rolling for summer.  The Belgian blonde that I made just got transferred to the secondary today (after two weeks in the primary), but that was intended as a spring brew.

I would definitely be up for another community brew.

I don't know what everyone would like to try but a refreshing wheat beer that's able to withstand the temperatures of a summer ferment would be a good one to try. Just my thought though....you decide!!!

GOODBREWING

I would second the wheat beer... although I do plan to brew one next.

I'm up for another go at the community brew

K, a wheat is an idea, any other ideas? how about a Blonde, Pilsner, or a Cream Ale?

How about a light zesty belgian wit.

My vote goes for a pale ale of some sort.

Well probably not the best beer to do for a community brew since it takes a long time to finish, but I'm getting ready to brew a ton of sour beers.  Flanders Reds, Flanders Browns, Sour IPA, etc. with the seasonal Roeselare yeast that is back out.  I'll probably also pick up the Farmhouse yeast and start doing some Saison experiments.  The spring weather is great for doing primary fermentation on these beers, while the warmer summer weather is ideal for a long secondary.

I can't wait!  I picked up my yeast this week and hopefully will get a chance to start brewing with it before I have to move.

I could do a blonde ale or a cream ale... maybe even with some fruit?

Please keep me posted on how this works out for you.  Sours are something I've toyed with but haven't done yet and I'm definetely doing a Saison this summer, well if we get any warm weather in Seattle.  I vote for a Saison!!!!!  Various fermentation temps could lead to an interesting expierement since we all live in different areas.

Cheers!

you women and your damn cream, go get a smoothie.

smile just kidding

What about a Saison?  Its a bit of an usual beer, good for the summer, good ABV typically, and complex enough that we should get a good variety of beers.

May 5th is the AHA Big Brew day! Maybe we could do something simlar to one of these recipes:

I'd be up for the Saison.  I haven't gotten the yeast for it yet, but it's a fun style for experimentation.  If you ever see some Fantome laying around, pick up a bottle and give it a try...fantastic and different from most beers out there.

I understand the whole cream ale and light American lager, etc., but I just don't enjoy them enough to want 5+ gallons of that sitting around...even after cutting the lawn, ha.  The lightest things I normally drink would be a wheat or pale ale, nice and crisp with plenty of flavor...does the job.  Anything lighter than that and I'll probably just pull some seltzer out of the fridge.

OK heres what was presented so far:

Saison
Wheat/Wit etc.
Pale Ale
Blonde Ale
Cream Ale

If anyone else has any ideas please speak up and how about by the end of the week we start the voting.
