Oatmeal Stout for me.  What about a little fenugreek seed, give it a little maple taste?

If we do an Oatmeal Stout you can add what ever you want to it though.

ya, seeing how we have never done a swap for comparison, in the end you can tweak anything to your liking.

Dunkelweizen = 1
Oatmeal Stout = 8

In the middle of doing a swap right now, if it hasn't been done here before, why not try it. We could suggest a deadline and find all that are in, Swap out the community brew to the paired partner randomly, and maybe include a specialty beer from your archive. I will be shipping out 4 at the end of the week by UPS, I'll see what the shipping is. Then we could put personal tweaks and get feedback, just a thought.

seeing how i know how UPS works with home pick up im in for a swap when the time is right.

A swap sounds cool.  How great would that be to have the UPS guy bringing you beer!

...or UPS chick... it's all part of my fantasy.

I need to adjust my recpie a bit, I have cracked a couple bottles of the Oatmeal stout recpie I listed before on this thread.  In the next brew I make, I will reduce the amount of roasted barly by 1/2.   This is, I believe, necessary, due to a quite strong roasted flavor with the beer I just  tried.  It's not bad, but, a little strong on the roast flavor.  I will compensate by adding a bit more 2 row  to make up for the subtraction of roasted.

Now, as far as your own personal tweaks, I say go for what you like.  However, as far as the "Official" brew goes, lets just call it an "Oatmeal Stout".  You can use what ever recpie you like, from a kit, (beer in a can), to partial's to AG'ers.  The end result, is that you enjoy the making of it!  Enjoy the process, and of course, the final result.  so far, no one has brought up one of the most important questions that should be addressed..."What kind of yeast should we use?"  I have 2 going right now, the one I am drinking, is an english ale, I have another with a 2nd run Oktoberfest Lager (still untried).
but it's almost ready to go into the bottle, maybe this weekend.  Bottom line, for this brew, make the very best Oatmeal stout you can.

How do you brew an oatmeal stout with extracts?  I know that Oats can't just steep, so is there an oat extract because I don't want to do a mash.  Not quite there yet.

Everyone says oats need to be mashed, and they do if you want to get fermentables from them.  But I used to make an Oatmeal stout extract from a kit that steeped 0.5lb of oats.  You can get some oat character that way, but you won't get the same effect of mashing oats.
Its doable and doesn't cause any problems to steep a small amount of oats in an extract brew.
