Brown Porter
I never brew porters. I don't know why. So here is my first attempt at Brown Porter.
I think I'll be brewing thins up tomorrow or Friday, along side a batch of Ordinary Bitter.
This will also serve as my first experiment with brown malt
6-gallon batch
10.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) UK (3.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Brown Malt (65.0 SRM)
0.75 lb Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM)
0.75 oz Northern Brewer [8.50 %] (60 min)
1.00 oz US Goldings [3.00 %] (20 min)
S-04 English Ale
Mash temp. 154F
~OG 1046
~SRM 26
~IBU 26
I couldn't get EKG at my LHBS, so I figured I'd try some US goldings instead. The LHBS didn't have any decent english bittering hops either, so N.Brewer it is...
I'll be using a similar hop variety in the O.Bitter, so I should get a decent idea of how these hops stand up to my normal all EKG regimen.
BREW ON!
That looks like a nice easy drinker. Not overwhelmingly complex, just nice and simple. I like it, let us now how it turns out. Got a dubbel slated for friday myself.
