Chocolate Milk Stout
I love a good earthy Milk Stout almost as much as I love a nice chocolate stout, especially in these winter months. I thought it would be a good idea to make a chocolate sweet stout, but was sort of amazed when I couldn't find a recipe for one.
So, here is what I pieced together and brewed. It is sort of an imperial/milk/chocolate stout combination which came out great. Next time I will cut down on the Flaked Oats and Barley and the Roasted Barley, though. It turned out a little too chewy for my taste.
5 gallon batch
9# American 2-row
1# Munich
1# Crystal 60L
1# Roasted Barley
1# Flaked Oats
1# Flaked Barley
1# Chocolate Malt
1# Lactose
.5 oz Magnum (60 mins)
.5 oz Magnum (10 mins)
White Labs 002 English Ale yeast
2 oz of Cocoa powder in secondary
1 vanilla bean, split in secondary
Single infusion mash at 155F
batch sparge method
OG - 1.075
FG - 1.028
looks good.
I had plans for something similar last year, but no oatmeal. Just a traditional Milk Stout kicked up in gravity with some chocolate in it.
Nice looking recipe though.
