Coffee Porter

I have just returned from fishing & beer discovery in Ontario.

Fishing - good, Beer - excellent.

Discovered Mill Street Brewery, out of Toronto.  Coffee Porter.
Chewy & smooth.

Does anyone know of a clone or have a good recipe for samesaid?

Pike were easy, Walleye- very wily, smallmouth - great.

I can't find a clone for that but I can get you a couple Coffee Porter recipes if you want.......do you want a Brown or Robust Porter as a good Porter recipe can be adapted by the addition of coffee

There may be some coffee stout clones out there too.

Z street brewing out here used to make a great Mocha Java Stout.

Not so good now as the owvership has changed.

Props to Joe Z.

Yeah, I could use a partial mash recipe.  I'd like to see both Brown & Robust, if it's not too much trouble.

I've got the 1991 Papazian & Brewmaster's Bible, neither has a real recipe.

Thanks.

check out any of the following three websites (loads of porter recipes and many more):

Cats Meow 3

Gambrinus' Mug

oh and here's a link to a coffee porter recipe that I made a few months back.  it was seriously on of the best beers I made.  although, i must warn you that if you do make it, the gravity numbers posted on the site aren't correct.  I actually came out with a O.G. of 1.092! but this is actually what it calculates to when I put it in a recipe calculator.

Gary's Beer Recipes

I know there are several coffee porter and coffee stout recipes right under your nose.

OK shameless plug for the site and its owners.  I am not affiliated with the site at all, I get nothing from this.  I have a copy of the recipe book and did a search for coffee.   There are several interesting references to porters and stouts using coffee.

I for one do not drink coffee, can't stand the flavor.  SO I can't vouch for any of these recipes.

Brewski,
I was just downloading the new podcast on Basic Brewing Radio and it's the one your looking for.....it's one on brewing with coffee, I haven't got a chance to listen to it yet but I will tonight .....here's the download page....I find it's easier to use I'tunes if you have it, plus you schedule it or get the old ones and have them saved......

I wouldnt suggest adding coffee to the boil for fear of harsh flavors but I doubt it would make a big difference.  If you are looking for a nice smooth hint of coffee Ive found that the addition for a pot of espresso to the secondary works perfectly.

Good thing to know.  I'm planning an Espresso Stout in 2 weeks.

I just brewed a coffee porter this past weekend.  I used a half pound of ground Sumatra coffee beans and did a cold steep in 2 quarts of water, added just before flameout.  This gave the wort a mild coffee aroma and a slight coffee flavor.  Very excited a about this.  I'm sure that the aroma will be killed during fermentation but my goal is a hint of coffee in the after flavor.
