Community Milk Stout
well im having my first glass and i'm very happy ![]()
Mine is sitting in the fermentor still...that's the price you pay for brewing between Christmas and a family wedding, I guess ![]()
Going to put it into a secondary this week, and probably keg it early next week. Should be able to give an opinion soon ![]()
I think aspen was the last of those that said they would brew the BKB sweet stout(milk stout) wasn't he?
I tested a couple pints I had here at the house this last weekend, one week after bottling, it's going to turn out really well, needs another week or two, we'll try a couple more this coming weekend.
This recipe, I will brew agin.
Should we start a post on another recipe, for, say March, late February?
I've got a couple plans and a brew or two so it may need to wait for a couple weeks, trying a sierra nevada pale ale clone soon and want to try a barrlywine, a bigfoot clone after that.
(which is not going to be cheap at all) After that we'll have one primary fermenter left.
i think sometime in march would be good for the next commmunity brew.
I'm a little behind most of you on this recipe but I figured I'd give it a go. Pretty excited about it as I'm bottling today. Question, I've never used lactose in anything I've made, but I've read to add it when bottling and to try to mix with a little boiled water as it makes it easier to dissolve into the beer. Anybody have any comments on this.

Andrew, i hope your not confusing the lactose for the priming sugar?, the lactose is a non-fermentable sugar we are using to sweeten the beer.
we added it 15min left of the 60 min boil (thats what my notes say)
no I'm not confusing it with the priming sugar going to still use 3/4 c. corn sugar for that. The only thing I've read about using lactose was in The joy of homebrewing and it said to add it at bottling. Apparently I must have missed something, hopefully still turns out well.
I added it at the last 10 minutes of the boil, I hope it turns out for you, I don't see anyreason why it should'nt. But I'm still fairly new to brewing myself.
prob wouldnt make a difference.
The package that the lactose came in says to add it at bottling as well. So I'm sure it will be fine. It'll be hard to let these condition for two weeks before drinking. Seems like a solid stout. Anyone that has drank any of these have any further comments on them? Ive heard people complain about a nutrasweet flavor in conection with lactose in beers, but I didn't pick up any of that when I sampled.
