cooking sherry
I alwys wondered abotu cooking sherry. Is theer really a difference in the style used in cooking. And if there is can it be made at home.
Cooking sherry, or any other cooking wine, is a low grade wine with added salt and other flavorings, disgusting.
Yes, you wouldn't want to drink any cooking wine or sherry. There isn't any reason why you couldn't use a standard sherry or wine for cooking though. I just wouldn't use a good bottle for cooking, same as I don't use a good beer when cooking with beer.
So then whats the point of buying it. Now second stupid question.. what flavor does a good sherry really impart on food. I think I remember reading it adds flavor to desserts..
And thrid stupid question can you make your own real sherry?
So then whats the point of buying it
It's 1/10 the price of real wine.
The flavors you get from the sherry will probably depend on the type. Sweet sherry will probably add some sweetness to your dish. Dry sherry will probably add a nuttiness to it.
I am sure there is a way to make sherry, I just don't know what it is. I believe that sherry is fortified with some sort of hard alcohol similar to a port, so this would have to be done. Otherwise, the process seems like it would be similar to wine.
soooooo I think I will just leave it out........ Not worth the price at the market not worth the trouble.. Ill stick with my favroite seasonings and cheapo extracts for flavors....
