Dry Malt Extract Recipe

Brand new here, so bear with me.

Just inherited a complete homebrew setup ( friend's divorce, but that's another story). I've read up on HOW to this, so I'm going to try.

Does anyone have a SIMPLE 5 gallon recipe using ONLY Dry Malt Extract plus the rewuired hops and yeast?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, welcome to the forums.

Check with MoreBeer or Northern Brewer.  They both offer simple ingredient kits that come with everything you would need.  You might also check to see if you have any homebrew shops in your area, once again they would offer simple ingredient kits.  They should also be able to provide advice as well, plus if you need something in a pinch, they are the way to go.

Sorry, don't need a kit.

Ialso "inherited" 25 lbs of dry extract, along with some different hops. But I can't find a "recipe" that just utilizes the dry stuff.

what kind of malt and hops?

What type of beer are you hoping to get? I have many resipeis for the beer you have discribes

You can indeed make a good beer with dried extract and hops.  I just bottled a batch that was just dried extract, hops and yeast and it is pretty darned good smile

Thanks to all those who have tried to help.

I have 5 differnet types of hops, but in limited quantities. The yeast is probably too old. So I'm willing to buy both those.

I want to make an amber (that's the dry extract variety) ale to use the 25 lbs of product that I was given.

Could someone just list a simple recipe quantities and I'll go from there.

how old is the yeast, is it dry or liquid, if its dry it may be still good, what type of hops and how much do you have, we may be able to come up with a recipe with what you have.

Real Simple Recipe off the top my head.
7lb Extract
1oz high aa hops
1 1/2oz lower aa hops
Yeast for 5 gallons

Boil 6 gallons of water if you have a pot big enough, do at least 3 gallons for 60 min. Add extract when boil starts, and add 1 oz High AA hops, With 30 min left in the boil ad 1 oz lower aa hops, whit 5 min left add 1/2 oz lower aa hops. Cool wort to 70 degrees, put in Fermentor and shake the piss out of it, get as much oxygen in the wort as possible. Then Pitch yeast and put and air lock or blow off tube on and sit back and a have a few beers, wait aproximatly a week and then transfer to a secondary or bottle.

Cheers

Yup simple as that!!  it wouldn't hurt to look into getting some Cara-pils and/or Crystal Malt maybe 10L or so. to steep.
