Formulate a recipe for Titan IPA
I just tried a Great Divide's Titan IPA (formerly Maverick). Not a new beer but new to me and my local liquor store. Its an excellent IPA, a must try for those who haven't. A little description: "beginning with piney hop aromas and citrus hop flavors, and finishing with a rich, malty sweetness that is carefully balanced with crisp hop bitterness." Alc 6.8% IBU 65.
With a little searching, I’ve found out that they use : Simcoe, Amarillo, and Columbus. If I could determine the boiling order for those hops I would be half way to formulating a recipe. Any help would be great. I figure Columbus for bittering, but maybe its the Simcoe... Do you know?
thanks

It may be worth emailing the brewer-- some guys are very forthcoming with tips and techniques. Others aren't but it can't hurt to ask.
I would take a cut at this with using Columbus for bittering and then going with a simcoe/amarillo blend for flavor and aroma, and dry hop with amarillo. It may not be right but it is will be a good cut at it and you can adjust it from there.

That's a kick-ass IPA, by the way. The last post had a pretty solid approach. One thing I'd add: Because that beer has some fairly pronounced resiny depth to the hop aroma, I'd include some Simcoe in the dry-hop addition. Just Amarillo seems like it'd be a little too fruity/floral without some of that piney intensity underneath it, so to speak.
I'd construct a solid malt base, bitter with the Columbus, use all three for flavor and late additions, and dry hop with Simcoe and Amarillo. Whether it'll be a Titan-dead-ringer I don't know, but it'll damn sure be tasty.
