Got some goodwill brewing supplies
I'm new to brewing (starting my second batch). I was given some odds and ends the other day. I have 2 3.3lb cans of Munton's Light liquid extract and a pound of LD Carlson's Laaglander DME Extra Light. Can anyone offer a recipe for a newb that uses these ingredients?
You can use those to make any recipe you want. I typically use light LME in all my recipes, and steep grains for the color needed.
With nothing but LME on your hands, your possibilities are endless...it all really depends on what style you like. You could pretty easily make a IPA/APA if you went to the LHBS and picked up some specialty grains, and some hops for a good hop schedule.
Typical Recipe would be ;
Steep Grains (cara-pils, Americal Crystal 10, whatever will suit your tastes, but dont go any darker than amber for some, not all grains) in grain bag for 15-30 minutes at 150-160 degrees>
Drain grains in steeped water (do not squeeze bag)>
Remove from heat and add in 2 cans LME>
Bring to a boil
Boil 5 minutes and add in 1 oz bittering hops (cascade, fuggle, target, really your choice of whats available) (beware of the dreaded boil over)
Boil 45 minutes and add in 1 oz aroma hops (again your choice)
Boil 15 additional minutes
At flame out add 1 oz hops
OG should be in the neighborhood of 1.042-1.045 and should attenuate down to 1.012-1.018ish
Yeast - again up to you, a rehydrated dry brewers yeast would work fine and get the job done in 4-5 days, or you could pitch a liquid yeast to fit the style, and you should be mostly done in 5-7 days...
You could bottle in 2 weeks (3/4 cup priming sugar dissolved in 1/2 cup water poured first into bottling bucket) with no need for a secondary if you were careful in racking but a little residual cloudiness may stick around...no big deal if you dont mind.
Keep in mind this is all off the top of my head, but you could always check beertools.com for a good recipe generator.
Good luck - Cheers!
Are the cans of extract hopped or unhopped?
Reading the label, it appears the liquid extract is already hopped.
