Green Flash West Coast IPA clone
Green Flash West Coast IPA clone
I have to start out by saying that this is one of my favorite beers! If you live in a state where Green Flash hasn't become available yet... sorry man! -Hopefully soon.
I actually started homebrewing to be able to clone this beer. After a few failed attempts, I got the recipe. Thank you lord! I know Chuck was very hush hush about this recipe for along time, and when Jamil's brewing network came to him and did the segment 'can you brew it?', you could tell he was hesitant about all the information being released. You can catch that audio over at the brewing network.
My main objective for this beer was to capture the unique hop flavors, but create a session beer. The distributed version comes in at 7.2%, but that makes it a bit hard to session with. Well my first attempt came in a little high, getting better efficiency than expected, I got a 6.4%... when I was looking for something like 5.5%.
As far as taste goes, I think I hit it pretty close... we'll see how the next batch comes out.
This is the recipe I used.

I caught this CYBI podcast and already entered the recipe into Beersmith. Green Flash is a damn good beer! I frequent a bar that has it on tap often. I already have an IPA on deck but hopefully I'll get a chance to brew this up soon.

I have to agree!
It's to bad they stopped making the nut brown, cause it was real good too. And if you like reds, their hop head red is very good. I'm lucky enough to work only 5 minutes from the brewery, but since they started charging $1.50 for 7oz tasters I stopped going.
If you plan on brewing this clone, I would suggest buying your hops in bulk -since there is so many additions.
I'm actually brewing this beer again tonight, but changing up the grain bill to add some Munich. Should be interesting.
