Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat
Well now im into the keg and im lovin it, BrewTown_Bill how did it turn out with the lemon zest?
it was awesome, very apparent yet subdued. I used the zest of 1 fresh lemon and 3/4 fresh orange at 5 min left in the boil (along with corriander). the lemon was apparent, couldn't really distuguish the orange.
I'm really digging up from memory because I brought the keg out at a birthday party and it was empty in 3 hours!! Guess it was just that good...
I stumbled upon this beer at a local bar, they had it on tap. I was hooked immediately. It has inspired my next batch:
7 lbs. Liquid Wheat Malt (60% Wheat - 40% Barley)
1 oz. Czech Saaz (60 min.)
3/4 oz. Crushed Coriander Seed (10 min.)
3/4 oz. Bitter Orange Peel at Flame Out
1 pkg. BrewFerm Wit Ale Yeast (probably change this to WLP380 or 400 though)
3/4 cup Corn Sugar for Priming
1.5 lbs. Blueberry Puree (Added to Secondary)
Not a lot of blueberry because I'm splitting this batch and adding 1# Honey to other half in 2ndary.
The LME is what is on hand at my local brew shop, I'm not sure who makes it.
The BrewFerm Wit Yeast is what I used the first time I brewed this as a Belgian Wit, it turned out great but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get this type of yeast again since it's not available on the brew shop's web site.
For the record I found a sixer of this beer at my local "packy" ( I am fortunate to have such a great liquor store near by that stocks all sorts of micros. Harringtons in Chelmsford MA if you are ever in the hood looking for beer.)
I think this is a great beer. I can see why people enjoyed it and talked about it so highly. I love the blueberry like notes I get off the aroma and the lingering flavor. Very refreshing.
I don't like to bump up old and aging threads, but I had posted a question about this beer, and I wanted to say thanks for pointing it out. Otherwise I would have walked right by it at the store.
BTW I paid $7.85 for the sixer... But worth it. Even more worth making a clone of it to brew at home.
Just cracked open my first one.....only been in bottle for 8 days so the carbonation was just a little low but it's pretty damn close.....I ended up using San Fran lager yeast, 7g of crushed corriander(end of boil) and 1.25oz blueberry extract at bottling......YMMM ![]()

this recipe is an extract recipe correct? I can just boil the grains before adding the liquid wheat extract. Also would one want to filter out the hops and corriander seed before putting it into the primary or should i leave it all in untill i rack it to the secondary. I also want to substitut the half pound of muntons light LME with DME as i have to buy a 3 pond can and it wilkl go to waste. I can buy a pond of the DME. Less waste less money.
yes the recipe above is an extract, mine came out good but i thought the corriander was a little stong, you might want to cut that back a little
do i crush the corriander or leave it whole ? I made my starter toadys so i think i may make it tomorow or the next day. Did you filter out the hops when yo uput it in the fermenter or leave them in?
crush it, i bought it pre ground, i put my hops in a hop bag
