Making a kit lighter?

I plan to start a Spagnols kit soon, and I was wondering if there's a simple way to make it a little lighter. Ideally I'd like a lager or Pilsner.

I don't suppose it would be as simple as adding less sugar before bottling or using some more water?

I'd rather not give up any carbonation.
