River Rat Rye

Hi Guys,

This will be my first attempt at a partial mash, and I think I will be using my bottling bucket for batch-sparging, while doing the actual mash in the boil-kettle.
Only concern... my bottling bucket has been used many times now for mixing my Iodo-phor sanitizer, and is starting to get pretty stained. I don't see any reason why the stain would affect my flavor, but I want to be sure before I sparge in there!

Thank You

Hi clayton,

Good luck with the partial mash. It's very easy, IF you use the right equipment. Do you have a manifold put together yet? FYI, I can't remember what form of rye you're using, but flaked will impart more rye flavor than malted.

I'll be using malted, but only b/c my LHBS does not carry flaked. What I would like to do is half malted, half flaked.
I don't have a manifold yet, but will either be building one by the weekend or use a bag in my bottling bucket.
Thanks for re-assuring me o the Iodo-stains. I figured it wouldn't cause flavoring, but I wanted to be sure!
Rye IPA here I come!!
for what it's worth... I played "Rat" in "The Wind in the Willows" when I was a young lad, and so have always had a fondness for river rat's it was only a matter of time until I had a River Rat Rye Ale!

Cheers!!
