Small Batch Mead Recipes
As a beginning Mead maker, I am looking for various recipes that can be made in a 1 gallon glass jug. I am already trying the Orange Cinnamon but I would like to start a 2nd one in case the first goes south. The reason I want to go with small batch brewing is that if it doesn't work out, I don't want to have wasted money on equipment.
A good starting point is 3lbs of honey per gallon. Also, try to get a wine yeast that is 12-14%. Lavin D-47 is a very popular and highly recommended yeast although I have not personally tried it. If you want flavoring, add it in the secondary. I recommend primary for 30 days , rack, then secondary for 90 days, then bottle. As far as flavors, any fruit in the secondary should taste good. Run some of your ideas by us.
