Shooting for a malty rich dark brown, any comments are welcome!
i think you are overboard with the crystal. Crystal gives sweetness ranging from caramelly to fruity, and using that much will give a high reidual sweetness. i like the use of 3 crystals adding complexity, but I would go with 1/2 a pound each at the most. the chocolate and even a good base malt will give that nice rich maltiness you are looking for.
Also it seems like the oak addition is a bit much. For a 5 gallon batch I usually use 4 oz.. Oak can impart a flavor change quickly, I have had the best luck using a smaller amount, but letting it age longer. This gives a smoother unharsh flavor. just my $.02
Also curious how you can get it to be only 43 calories a pint?

Does this look more in line?
I had forgot that I decided to not play with the oak, just forgot to take it out.
Beersmith doesnt calculate the calories untill you put the OG and FG in.
I agree with Tasty's coments on the Crystal malt. You wouldn't like the results at that level.
I think his calories are off because his "measured" OG is 1.010 and "measured" FG is 1.005.
I get around 197 calories. 1.059 to 1.015.
EDIT: You beat me to it.
I am not trying to be a pain, but one pound of Honey malt is a lot too. It has a very distinct sweet syrup like flavor.
With all the different crystals I think the honey malt is not necessary to be honest. Unless you've used it before and you like the flavor of it, I'd consider dropping it. You could use less, but again its just going to conflict with the crystal complexity you have going on.
I am familure with honey malt and it is one of the flavors I am looking for, I was afraid at less it would get lost in the other malts. If this isnt the case I have no problem dropping the ammount.
Then I say just go for it and see what you get.
Well, I am going to brew this one this weekend. Saturday is going to be a busy day, I have a friend that is going to come over and brew his first batch. After his, I am going to brew this one. Should be a fun day. I thank all of you for the advice!!!!
Thanks for all the help, it turned out to be wonderful!
