Which is the best brand of hydrometer?

I think I need to get a new hydrometer.

Any recommendations? Which is the best one to get?

I use just a very basic one that came with my home brew kit.  I really don't see why you would need much more than that...lots of other gadgets I'd rather have. smile

I like the type that has a built in thermometer as well.  They are a little bit more money but I like being able to quickly check the temperature and hygrometer reading at the same time so I can make quick Specific Gravity corrections.

Hope this helps you in your search.

Look for a hydrometer that has a solid weight at the bottom, not the little bb's.  That way, if you use it in your wort while brewing, you don't have to worry quite as much if it breaks.

I used Hydrometer - Thermometer Combo for determining gravity and alcohol levels, monitoring fermentation. It includes thermometer as well. It only cost $14 bucks. No regrets because the quality is best.

if you ever decide to brew all grain, save up a few extra bucks and buy a refractometer.  you can take gravity readings with only a few drops of liquid, and temperature isn't an issue. they're $60 at most homebrew shops, and probably cheaper on fleabay...

I second Danno's refractometer idea.  I haven't used my hydrometer in 2 years after getting a refractometer.

Refractometer for $60 is already a good deal for me. It's a little bit expensive but it surely have satisfying quality.
