HBU (Home Bittering Units)
HBU (Home Bittering Units): Another name for AAU's, HBU's are an approximate measurement of the total alpha acids contributed to the beer obtained by multiplying alpha acid by ounces of hops boiled for more than fiftenn minutes. This measurement only approximates actualy bitterness, as hops boiled sixteen minutes contribute less bitterness than hops boiled sixty minutes.
