Anyone ever make blueberry wine?

I have only made wine a couple times and that was with grapes years ago with my dad. I just bought a brewing kit and want to make beer, but have to admit that the memories of making wine with my dad are fond ones and pull at me toward wine as well.

When I was in my teens a friend's mother made blueberry jam as she did every year as the had about five acres of blueberries on thier family farm. this particular year the jam never set, instead it is my guess that somehow wild yeast got to it and took over. Anyway when the jars were opened you could smell the alcohol. It's taste, as memory serves me was more sour than sweet, but sweet/sour none-the-less. We didn't get to drink the jam as it was dumped after it was discovered that it fermented. I am interested in trying it to see how it goes.

I'm sure someone here has made blueberry wine before, can you give me a clue on how it went and maybe your thoughts? Thanks!

i never have but it sounds like something i'd like to make too

I have a book called making wild wines and meads.... great recipes in gallon batches.  She posts this one:

1 gal. blueberries
3lb sugar
1 campden tablet
1 tsp acid blend
1/4 tsp tannin
1 pkg wine yeast
1 tsp yeast nutrient
1 1/2 c. blueberry juice @ room temperature

Crush berries, add 3 qt water, 1/2 the sugar and campden tab, cover, let sit 24 hours

Add the rest of the sugar, the tannin, and enough water to make 1 gal

Yeast starter: Blueberry juice, yeast nutrient, blueberry juice. Pitch when bubbly

Ferment 2 days, rack to secondary

Ferment 5 days, rack to tertiary

Ferment to completion (appx 3 months), rack, bottle, condition 6 months before drinking.

I know the recipie sounds crack-headed with all the racking at weird times, but all the recipes I have tried out of this book have been phenominal.... I intend on increasing them because once we tasted the wines from this book, one gallon was no where near enough!

Haven't tried this one (we don't have bluberries in my area) but based on my past experience with her recipes (Strawberry wine, Blackberry wine, Cherry dessert wine, Sweet cherry melomel, rosehip wine and tomato wine (yes, it was brilliant), , I would definately give it a shot.

I used this site's chart to make my cherry wine last fall. Turned out quite nice and was drinkable in about two and half months. Looks like they have the listing there for blueberries too.
