Chokecherry Wine
Hey Guys,
Received a bottle of HOMEMADE chokecherry (sic) wine for my birthday last week from a friend. Yes I'm 29. It's a fruit filled flavor. What is chokecherry? I was to shy (young) to ask them.
The Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) is a species of bird cherry (Prunus subgenus Padus) native to North America, where it is found almost throughout the continent except for the deep south and the far north. It is a suckering shrub or small tree growing to 5 m tall. The fruit are about 1 cm diameter, bright red, with a very astringent, sour taste.
There are two varieties: the Common Chokecherry and the Western Chokecherry.
The swecret of home-winemaking - if you add enough sugar, before, during and after fermentation, you can make wine from anything (yes, dandelion wine exists)
Best of Luck!!
Hey david,
Many years ago, a friend in New Hampshire gave me a bottle of her homemade dandelion wine. I remember thinking it was quite good, but then again, it was at a time when I was not a wine enthusiast and my favorite beverage was Coke. So I'm sure it was very sweet. Nowadays, I probably would not enjoy it much. (I don't enjoy Coke anymore, either.)
