Topping Secondary and cranberry flavor
Hi Dears!
Is it critical to top up 1 inch from the bung when going to the secondary??
I have a little under 5 gallon cranberry apple started it's maybe 1/2 gallon shy of reaching the recommended space to minimize oxygen on the top, will it contaminate the wine if you don't top up correctly?
I have some misc. blueberry left over in a carboy that I could use to top up. However ,I worry about taking away from the cranberry flavor.. Anyone out there have any ideas or advice???
Regards!
santiago
Hey santiago,
Cranberry has a very strong intense flavor. I wouldn't worry too much about losing its' flavor. You could add some white grape (watch out for preservatives if it's still fermenting) and it'd never know it wasn't 100% cranberry. You might but it wouldn't The marble idea is a great one and I intend to use it soon.
Cheers!
